Samskrita Bharati, Manipur Prant and Shri Shri Govindaji Temple Board jointly organised International Gita Jayanti and Geeta Path at Shri Shri Govindaji Temple, Palace Compound, here, on Saturday.
Speaking as chief guest of the event, Governor La Ganesan asserted that popularity of Gita is increasing around the world and it is a pride for the country.
Youth need to understand the message of Gita and follow them for a better world.
Message of Lord Krishna is universal in nature as he spread the message of universal love, endurance and peace, he said.
He also elaborated on how the advice of Lord Krishna before the battle of Kurukshetra helped Arjuna in the battle and how it is relevant in today's world.
Chief minister N Biren, who presided over the event, appreciated the initiative of Samskrita Bharati, Manipur Prant to revive Sanskrit language.
He spoke on the message in Gita and its significance in today's world.
Maintaining that he as well as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is entrusted by the people to bring peace and development, the CM assured of upholding the aspiration of the public.
Rajya Sabha MP and titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba, Govindaji Temple Board Brahma Sabha by abasthakari G Damarupati Sharma, Samskrita Bharati, Manipur adhyaksha S Vedesh-war Sharma also attended the occasion as guests of honour.
Sh Gouramani Sharma and Amusana Santri led 108 pandits in reciting Geeta Path on the occasion.
ISKCON Manipur also celebrated Gita Jayanti festival at Sri Sri Radha Krishna Chandra Mani Mandir, Sangaiprou on Saturday.
Many devotees thronged the temple and took part in the festival marked by recitation of Bhagavat Gita Sloka, rangoli competition, quiz competition, Nagar Sankirtan and Gita distribution, among other activities.
