Imphal, July 31 2026: Nongchup Imphal Palem Ima Apunba Lup (NIMPAL) on Friday organised a one-day discussion on "Mikhal Amasung Meira Paibigi Thoudang" at Thangjing Hall, Manipur Press Club.

NIMPAL president Th Ibeyaima, Nupi Samaj president Th Ramani.

AMKIL president L Nganbi and Tami Chingmi president Y Momon attended as presidium members.

Dr Dhanabir Laishram and LEIMAKON president MC Rita also attended as resource persons.

Addressing the gathering.

NIMPAL secretary general Sh Shanti Leima said during elections, candidates adopt various means to win votes.

In Manipur, Meira Paibis and local club members are often targeted because they have strong influence in their localities, she said.

She cautioned that Meira Paibis must think carefully and not be misled by false promises.

Citing past practices of distributing money, liquor and other items through Meira Shang during elections, she said such activities should be rejected.

Shanti Leima urged Meira Paibis to examine candidates' past work and character before supporting them.

"Meira Paibi movement has spread from villages to across Manipur.

We must uphold the values left by our mothers and not allow elections to divide us", she said, and appealed to stay away from election-related intoxicants and inducements.
