Imphal, December 20 2017:
As the stock of bulk LPG available at the Sekmai gas bottling plant of the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) ran out, IOC was not able to meet the demand of LPG consumers recently but normal bottling has resumed and now there is a stock for five days .
According to a reliable source at the bottling plant of the IOC, there was a stock of bulk LPG until last Sunday but it ran out completely by Monday .
It added that on December 8, unavailability of security convoy, which is provided by the CRPF, had resulted in the inability of the IOC to send empty LPG bulk TTs, and neither loaded LPG bulk TTs could be brought in .
The source added that the security convoy is generally unavailable on Satur- days and Sundays, so transportation was not possible on December 9 and 10.It maintained that the transportation was further halted on December 11 because of the drivers' reluctance created by a bandh called by police constable candidates .
Eventually empty LPG bulk TTs started moving on December 12 and these TTs reached the loading points on December 13 and 14 and began the loading process, the source maintained .
Though the security convoy was available on December 15, the TTs which left on December 12 could not make it to the place from where they were to be escorted back.
Then December 16 and 17 were Saturday and Sunday respectively and the convoy was not available on these days again .
On Monday, December 18, the security convoy left and came back with the LPG bulk TTs the next day.
On Tuesday, 33 TTs reached the Sekmai gas bottling plant and 50 more TTs arrived today .
With the recommencement of normal bottling at the Sekmai bottling plant, there is now a stock of bulk LPG which can meet the State’s requirement for five days .
The absence of transportation from December 8 to 15 for eight consecutive days had caused the shortfall till Monday .
The Government was requested to make arrangement for the security convoy on December 9 as it was unavailable the previous day but the request was turned down and if it had been accepted, there would have been no shortfall of supply, the source concluded.
