AR comes in where governance sleeps; villagers laud efforts

Rungchang village authority expressed gratitude to 29 Assam Rifles for rehabilitation work during the time when its villagers were severely affected by the flash floods on July 31 and October 9 .
A statement issued by village authority on Sunday said the Commanding Officer of 29 Assam Rifles, Col Kanwar Vikram Singh and his subordinate Maj Rajinder Singh, who is the Commander of Salluk Assam Rifle post have been rendering help not only to Rungchang village but also to villages including Hnaleral, Novokom, Peace Island which were partially submerged due to the flash floods that occurred on July 31 and as October 9 .

They provided food items, tents and JCB for clearing debris as well as woods piled up in the old Tera bridge which according to the affected villagers was the main cause of the flash floods.
The statement further reminded that the villagers have been urging the competent authority to dismantle the old Tera bridge at Rungchang but no action has been taken till date.
However, timely intervention by Assam Rifles in clearing the blocked site of the bridge by using an excavator has ended the fear of another flood disaster that may happen anytime, the statement said.
