Secretary clarifies on election fiasco

Ibotonsana Girls' Higher Secondary School Students' Union finance secretary Thokchom Suriya Chanu has clarified that the students' union election of her school was disrupted by the students of the school and DESAM volunteers were not involved in the incident.
Speaking at a press conference held at the school today, Suriya Chanu said that yesterday's students union election was disrupted by the students of the school as the election committee and some candidates failed to abide by the rules and regulations.
She alleged that the election committee did not take any action against the candidate whose supporters used cards during campaigning.
The committee also remained silent on the complaints of bringing a student of another school inside the school campus during the election although these activities are not allowed according to the guidelines of the election.
As such, the election was disrupted by irate students of the school she said and added that no DESAM volunteer was involved in the incident as alleged by the students' union general secretary Loitongbam Bidyalaxmi.
Suriya further said that Bidyalaxmi must provide proof for the allegation levelled against DESAM.
Saying that it was unfortunate that the teachers of the school took a biased decision, Suriya said that no election process must continue until the candidates who have violated the guidelines are disqualified.
