Imphal, July 31 2013:
Decrying the loss of large territory of the State to Myanmar as a result of the ongoing Indo-Myanmar border fencing, President of Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Kim Gangte has questioned if the Congress Government has developed a culture of giving out Manipur's land to Myanmar after Jawaharlal Nehru handed over Kabaw Valley to Myanmar.
Addressing media persons at the office of MPTC here today, Kim Gangte said that border fencing is being done to make people feel safe and secure in the country.
However, the border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar boundary has become a factor for separation of the State.
People living there have made to doubt if they are Indian citizens or not, she noted.
The State Government should intervene and stop the border fencing works before large territories of the State are lost to Myanmar.
The border fencing must be done in accordance with the internationally accepted boundaries and not blindly as carried out currently, Kim enjoined.
She further said that the right time has come for the people to give a lesson to Congress Party by refraining from giving vote to the party in the coming Lok Sabha Election.
