Noney, September 20 2024:
Normal life in Noney district was adversely affected as temperatures soared to 42.16 degrees Celsius between 2 pm and 3 pm on Friday, according to a report from the Directorate of Environment & Climate Change.
The scorching heat primarily affected school and college students, who bore the brunt of the extreme weather.
Those venturing outdoors for work were seen wearing caps and carrying umbrellas to shield themselves from the intense heat and the risk of sunstroke.

Many residents chose to stay indoors to avoid the heatwave.
The impact of the rising temperatures was also evident in the reduced footfall at Longmai Bazar, adversely affecting market sales.
Experts attribute the sharp rise in temperatures in Noney district to urbanisation and ongoing development projects such as the construction of a railway line, which involves extensive tree felling.
They stressed the urgent need for increased tree plantation and forest conservation to mitigate the greenhouse effect.
