Imphal, April 18 2009: A combined force of Imphal west police commandos and troops of 12 Maratha Light Infantry today destroyed at least three camps of two underground outfits at Khoidumpat area under Waikhong police station and recovered weapons and ammunition.

The recovered weapons and other materials were displayed before the media this evening at the Imphal West district police headquarter.

Among others, the displayed materials included a generator set, an inverter set with battery, utensils, LPG gas cylinder, three plastic chairs, one each of A 4-rifles, universal machine gun, a lathode gun with five lathode bombs, a wireless set, five Chinese-made hand grenades and several rounds of bullets.

SP, Imphal West, L Kailun said, the operation was launched from around 11 am till 2 pm in the area by the combined force based on specific information.

When the security forces reached Khoidum pat, some undergrounds opened fired several rounds of guns towards them.

The security forces retaliated resulting in exchange of fire for about 15 to 20 minutes.

However, the undergrounds managed well to their escaped.

In the search operation in the area, security forces discovered a temporary camp of the KCP and two such camps of the PREPAK.

Weapons and other materials were recovered from the said camps.

Security forces also torched the camps.

Seven big boats were also recovered during operation but as it were forcibly taken away from the villagers by the undergrounds, handed over to the respective owners.
