The Cultural Forum celebrates Diamond Jubilee ; Dy CM, Ministers stress on preserving State's culture

Imphal, May 17 2018: The 60th Anniversary (Diamond Jubilee) Celebration ofThe Cultural Forum, Manipur was held today at Chandrakirti Auditorium, Art & Culture Complex, Palace Compound today.

Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh, while gracing the celebration as the chief guest, said that Manipuri culture is one of the most developed cultures in the world.

He said, we have rich cultural values in literature, music, songs and dances and even in dress codes.

Joykumar further said that people have to look into various aspects of what influences cultural values can bring in their lives and what are its significances.

Stating that only glorifying histories cannot do justice to the past, Joykumar Singh said that the past needs to be introspected so that the present generation can understand the ways of life of the people in those early days.

Culture shows the relationship between human beings and with nature as well.

We should try to understand our own's culture and should have the drive to research on it, he added.

Art & Culture Minister L Jayantakumar Singh lauded the Cultural Forum, Manipur for playing a vital role in preserving the culture.

He said, although we have rich cultural values, only a few are working/associated with it.

We have to develop a good habit of reading novels, poems and posses so that we can understand its beauty and moral, Jayantakumar Singh added.

He pointed out that the State Government has been taking up a number of new initiatives to develop the art & culture in the State.

He reiterated that a Film City will soon be established in the State.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Th Radheshyam Singh said that positive values, which are rich in the culture and traditions, should be adopted and followed.

Songs, dances and even literature provides good values, which not only give enjoyment but also provides positive aspects of life.

"All negative thinking and weakness should be dropped and we should rejuvenate ourselves for a welfare society", he added.

Meanwhile, five senior life members of The Cultural Forum, Manipur namely RK Bidur Singh, Dr RK Jadumani Singh, Dr Thokchom Ranjit Singh, Wangkheirakpam Gyendrajit Singh and Leimapokpam Lakpati Singh were given a warm welcome by the forum.

On the other hand, four Sahitya Akademi Awardee and prize winners were also felicitated including Prof Rajen Toijamba, Dr Naorem Bidyasagar, Wareppam Jugindra Singh and Khangjrakpam Krishnamohon Singh.

Cash awards were given to 23 renowned individuals for their achievement in Literature, Culture and others.
