One killed in fighting amongst labourers at Maphou Dam

Imphal, December 27 2009: A labourer died when labourers working together at Maphou Dam site fought each other last night at about 10.30 pm.

The deceased labourer has been identified as Vijoy Karki (40) son of Durga Karki of Kangpokpi.

The dead body of the labourer was found inside a water reservoir with several bluish marks of beaten up.

Lamlai police registered a case and retrieved the dead body from the spot and kept at RIMS morgue for official procedure.

In the follow up action to the incident, Lamlai police picked up some labourers who were suspect of involving in the altercation that resulted to the dead of Vijoy.

Police suspected one Gopal Battarai hailing from the same village with the dead labourer as prime accused in the murder.

Police said that labourers of the dam construction had a drink party last night.

During the party deceased Vijay had a quarrel with prime suspect Gopal Battarai (22) .

He himself also admitted committing the crime, police added.

Police believed that Gopal had killed Vijoy after they went out from the labour camp where they held party.
