Kangpokpi, January 16 2019:
The Kuki Inpi Manipur has strongly disapproved the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in its executive meeting today stating that it is against the interest of the indigenous Kuki people in the northeastern states.
The decision to stand up against the bill was taken in tandem with the Kuki Inpi "Haipi Declaration" adopted on September 28, 2015 said KIM statement signed by Shokholun Mate, Lhangsam, Kuki Inpi Manipur while adding that as per the Haipi Declaration Resolution No 6 (i, ii, iii), it was resolved that any adverse policy and bill of the Government, related to their land and people shall be opposed by the Kuki people tooth and nail.
Therefore, the Central Government should not be adamant about passing the said bill in the Rajya Sabha, it added.
The Kuki Inpi Manipur also took strong exception of the Jiribam district administration's plan to evict villagers of Sejang, Mongbung, Moljol and Jaironpokpi villages and declared its endorsement over the stance of the All Jiribam Tribal Union in opposing the Government plan to forcefully occupy the lands of these tribal villages.
It said that agreement or mutual understanding between the State Government and the four tribal villages has to be made first before the Govt undertakes any developmental venture while adding that anything otherwise would be construed as a ploy to grab tribal land, which is unacceptable.
