Switch Off Hour observed across Kakching, Kamjong

Kakching/Kamjong, November 02 2026: 'Save Energy Day' was observed across various Government departments and institutions in Kakching and Kamjong districts as part of the BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week, being held from November 1 to 7, 2026 .

Kakching

As part of the initiative, a one-hour 'Switch-Off Hour' was observed from 1 pm to 2 pm, during which all non-essential lights, fans, air-conditioners, heaters and computers were switched off to promote energy conservation.

An awareness campaign was also conducted for the public, highlighting practical measures to reduce household energy consumption.

The campaign encouraged people to switch off lights, fans and electrical appliances when not in use, disconnect appliances at the plug rather than leaving them on standby, use LED bulbs and Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) star-rated appliances, and operate room heaters and geysers only when necessary.

People were also advised to maintain air-conditioner temperatures at 24°C or above and maximise the use of natural daylight to minimise electricity consumption.

The initiative was observed under the supervision of MSPDCL Kakching, with participation from Government ITI Kakching, PWD Kakching Division, Kakching Municipal Council and Kakching Khunou Municipal Council, among others.

Meanwhile, the Zonal Education Office (ZEO), Kakching, organised awareness activities at various educational institutions across the district, including Grace Cottage Cultural and Educational Development Foundation, Sekmaijin Primary School, Kakching Khunou High School, Sora High School, PR School among others, to sensitise students on energy conservation and environmentally responsible practices.

Kamjong

As a part of the 'BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week' being observed across the country, Government offices and educational institutions in Kamjong district today observed the 'Switch Off Hour' hour under the theme 'Save Energy'.

Sub-Divisional Office, Phungyar and Kasom Khullen participated in the observation by switching off the light and other electrical appliances including fans and computers for one hour.

ZEO, Kamjong also observed the Switch Off Hour by switching off the lights and other non-essential electrical appliances.

One Stop Centre, Kamjong also switched off the lights at the centre for one hour.

Various schools including Kamjong Higher Secondary School, Shangshak High School and Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS), Kamjong also participated in the Save Energy theme by switching off all the lights and fans for one hour today.
