MSLSA conducts interaction programme at Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa

Imphal, August 31 2022: Manipur State Legal Services Authority organised an interaction programme with the jail officials and inmate representatives including Sector Commanders and Room Commanders of Manipur Central Jail today from 2 pm to 4 pm at Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa.

Ojesh Mutum, Member Secretary, Manipur SLSA kicked off the interaction programme by delivering the opening statement wherein he highlighted the requirement of securing the legal rights of prisoners (both under trial prisoners or UTPs and convicts) through effective legal representation in Criminal Justice System.

Formats for collecting data of inmates were also handed to Sector/House Commanders for securing information from all inmates of the jail.

The programme was also attended by Bineshwori Maibam, Additional Member Secretary, Manipur SLSA; PLVs of Jail Legal Aid Clinic, Central Jail, Sajiwa along with the Project Team of Manipur SLSA.

An interactive session was further held with the jail inmates and jail officials.

A total of 40 participants attended the said programme.

The statement also mentioned that there are a total of 8 sectors in Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa and a total of 701 inmates (586 UTPs and 115 convicts) currently housed there.
