Imphal, February 21 2015 :
While the mobile technology is entering its fifth generation (5G) and the present 4G technology has enabled 'lightning fast' internet service all over the world, the State is still in a 'primitive' stage with no proper voice call and internet service.
Various mobile service providers including the state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) are operating in the State.
These service providers had launched 3G service in the State some years back, but still the mobile service is in a pathetic condition.
There are several complaints that the mobile consumers are losing money to the service providers due to poor voice call and internet service.

Even Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, other Ministers and MLAs of the State Government might be experiencing the poor mobile service, but they do not seem to take such matter seriously.
The disgruntled consumers are of the view that the State Government should at least have the authority to urge the mobile service providers to improve their services in the State even though their licenses are issued by the Central Government.
The state-owned BSNL has covered almost all parts of the State, but other service providers, namely Aircel, Airtel, Reliance, Idea and Vodafone are yet to cover the whole State.
Erratic power supply has been the main factor for poor mobile service in the State.
However, there is still no improvement in the service despite augmented power supply in the recent time.
Moreover, broadband internet service in the State has become headache for many consumers.
They are not able to get the requisite broadband speed even after shelling out huge amount from their pockets.
Some IT professionals based in Imphal have expressed dismay at poor mobile service saying that the State can never progress without any advancement in telecommunications.
