Imphal, February 22 2022: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has categorically stated that the BJP's double engine Governments have laid a strong foundation for the development of the State for the next 25 years.

The Prime Minister arrived here today morning.

Addressing an election rally organised by BJP Manipur Pradesh at Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium today, the Prime Minister asserted that the saffron party is confident of retaining power after the ensuing election and urged all to give their mandate to the party.

Continuing that the people of Manipur are aware of the developmental works taken up by the BJP in Manipur in the last five years and its commitment to take the State to even greater heights, Narendra Modi further stated that inequality, bandh and blockade which were chronic in the State during the Congress regime have also become things of the past.

Narendra Modi also called upon the youth and first-time voters of the State to exercise their voting rights so as to take part in the decision making process of the BJP Government.

Saying that the State Government led by Chief Minister N Biren has scripted a new chapter of Manipur in the last five years, the Prime Minister asserted that the BJP also rolled out free Covid vaccination drive and distributed free ration during the pandemic to save lives.

"What could have been the situation had the Covid pandemic hit the State before 2017 ?" the Prime Minister asked.

On women welfare initiative, Narendra Modi said that BJP's double engine Government has constructed over 60,000 houses under PM Awas Yojana, provided tap water to over 3,00,000 houses and gas connection to 50,000 women in Manipur.

Further stating that the Government has laid the groundwork to expand the railway network as Manipur and other North East States will act as the gateway to East Asia, Narendra Modi recalled that a goods train had also reached Rani Gaidinliu Railway Station in Tamenglong recently.

"Imphal will soon be on the railway map of the country and this development will be a great boost to the tourism sector of Manipur and create numerous employment opportunities," Narendra Modi continued.

Manipur is the gateway to trade and business with the rest of East Asia.

That is why the BJP Government brought Manipur on the railway map of the country, said the Prime Minister and added that the day is not far when the train will come till Imphal and it will be connected to the whole country.

This connectivity is also going to boost the tourism sector in the region, Modi said.

He said that apart from the railways, Manipur will be connected through national highways as the BJP government has taken up total 40 National Highway projects against one in the previous regime.

Hitting out at the Congress, the Prime Minister said that the Congress leaders never understand the grievances of the people despite their tall claims and added that the previous Government took up only one National Highway project during their tenure while the BJP's double engine Governments adopted 40 .

Manipur will become an important centre in East Asia once the Myanmar Thailand Highway project is completed, he added.

The Prime Minister also said that the country's first sports university, which has been set up in Manipur, will make the region an international hub of sports.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh also spoke at the programme and asked who showed up without any hesitation to serve the people during the Covid pandemic.

Saying it was the Prime Minister who provided free ration for two years and rolled out free Covid vaccination drive to save lives during the pandemic, N Biren further lauded Narendra Modi for implementing Inner Line Permit System in Manipur to protect the indigenous people and eliminating bandh culture.

"It is imperative to make BJP win an absolute majority in the ensuing election as a show of gratitude to the Prime Minister for his concern," the Chief Minister added.

N Biren also stated that women in Manipur no longer assemble in local sheds waiting for their husbands and sons to return and to keep this up, it is crucial for the BJP to retain power.

Apart from the Chief Minister, BJP State president A Sharda Devi, Spea- ker Y Khemchand, Works Minister Th Biswajit and BJP candidates were also present in the election rally.
