Chief Minister rules out internal crisis

Imphal, April 21 2023: Chief Minister N Biren has categorically stated that there is no crisis or unrest within the BJP-led State Government.

Following the resignation of Thokchom Radheshyam from the post of Advisor to the Chief Minister, Karam Shyam from the Chairmanship of Tourism Corporation and Paonam Brojen from the Chairmanship of Manipur Development Society (MDS), the BJP Legislature Party held a meeting at their Nityaipat Chuthek office today.

The meeting chaired by BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda was attended by 28 MLAs including Chief Minister N Biren out of a total 37 MLAs.

Of the nine MLAs who stayed away from the meeting, Paolienlal Haokip, Y Radheshyam and P Brojen did not give any reason for staying away from the meeting.

Power Minister Th Biswajit was also not present at the meeting as he went outside the State to attend an official programme with due permission of the Chief Minister and the party president.

The other absentee MLAs gave reasons in black and white for staying away from the meeting citing health problems or trips outside the State.

Speaking to media persons after the closed door meeting, Chief Minister N Biren claimed that there is no political unrest or crisis within the BJP-led Government.

On being enquired about the absence of nine MLAs, Biren said that one Minister could not attend the meeting as he took leave and went outside the State to attend an official programme.

Three other MLAs could not attend the meeting as they too went outside the State for treatment, Biren said.

The Legislature Party meeting deliberated on mass participation of BJP workers in the 100th episode of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Mann Ki Baat and other party activities, he said.

BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda said that she has come across grievances raised by some BJP MLAs through social media and their resignation from their respective administrative posts.

"Although I am the party's State unit president, they did not share their problems or wishes", Sharda said.

Today's meeting was convened to tell MLAs and Ministers that internal matters of the party should not be exposed through social media and instead resolve them within the family, she said. Sharda asserted that all family matters should be solved on the family table.

Sharing dislikes and grievances against the party/Government through social media by a member of the party/Government is not permissible by the party's discipline, she said.

"I was not informed about the recent political turmoil or misunderstanding but now everything has been solved after the grievances and problems of MLAs were discussed in the meeting", she claimed.

All the participants of the meeting were told to abide by the party's discipline even if they had problems or grievances, she said.

Now the party would call regular meetings of legislators to discuss different matters/issues, the BJP State unit president said.

Sharda maintained that they (MLAs) should first inform the party before moving to the next step if they have any grievances or problems.

She also appealed to all concerned not to highlight 'family problems' on social media as far as possible.
