Imphal, January 04 2022: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 13 projects worth Rs 1850 crore and laid foundation stone of nine projects worth around Rs 2950 crore in Imphal, today.

Addressing a public function at Konung Lampak today, the Prime Minister stated that the entire North East is becoming a hub of development for the country and added 'Delhi has been brought to the doorstep of Manipur'.

Saying that Manipur is home to several great leaders such as Maharaj Budhachandra, Narendra Modi continued that it was here in Moirang that INA led by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose hoisted the tricolor flag of India for the first time.

The North East, which Netaji called the gateway to India's independence, is becoming the gateway to fulfilling the dreams of a modern India, the Prime Minister said.

Saying that the inauguration of many new projects will benefit the people of Sanaleibak greatly, the Prime Minister maintained that the Centre is also working to provide tap water to every household in the State under the Har Ghar Jal mission.

A few years back, a meager 6 percent of the State's people had access to tap water, but the coverage now reaches about 60 percent, Narendra Modi maintained and said that such a feat could be achieved because of the double engine governance.

Saying that the State could achieve so much in a short period due to the installation of a stable Government in 2017, the Prime Minister thanked the people of Manipur for giving the incumbent Government a chance to govern effectively.

"Because of your votes, over six crore farmers are entitled to benefit worth hundreds of crore rupees under Kisan Samman Nidhi while another six lakh poor families received free rice under PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana," he maintained.

The Prime Minister further stated that over 80,000 houses have been constructed under PMAY while 4.25 lakh people have been given free health care facilities under Ayushman Bharat.

The Centre has also provided 1.5 lakh free gas connections; 1.3 lakh free electricity connections, constructed 30 thousand toilets; administered more than 30 lakh free vaccine doses and set up oxygen plants in every district of the State.

Saying that Manipur was ignored by the Congress Government during their tenure, Narendra Modi said that he knew what the people here aspire when he visited the State before becoming a Prime Minister.

Claiming that the BJP led Government has brought Centre to the doorsteps of people here, the Prime Minister maintained that several Union Ministers, party leaders and office bearers have been frequenting Manipur and other North East States to hear the aspiration of the people from the region.

Saying that Rani Gaidinliu who is an embodiment of women empowerment was born in Manipur, the Prime Minister added that the museum dedicated to the freedom fighter will surely inspire the younger generation.

Mount Harriet at Andaman & Nicobar Islands has also been renamed as Mt Manipur, he said.

The Centre is also committed to transforming the North East region to a gateway of development through Act East Policy, the Prime Minister maintained and continued that a National Sports University has also been established in Manipur to boost sports activities of the country.

On connectivity, Narendra Modi stated that the State will soon be a part of the railway map once the Jiribam-Tupul- Imphal railways line is completed.

Construction of Imphal-Moreh road which is a part of Asian Highway is also going on in full swing apart from repairing/constructing other National Highways and inter village roads, he maintained.

Manipur will also occupy a special place in the trade and commerce sector and facilitate Atmanirbhar Bharat once the Integrated Cargo Terminal at Imphal Airport becomes operational, Narendra Modi said.

Saying that the Centre has started a National Mission to cultivate Oil Palm with an investment of Rs 11 crore, the Prime Minister added that the mission will give financial benefit to the people of Manipur and other North East States.

Manipur which was once called a 'locked' State will now become a route of international trade due to the presence of the double engine, Narendra Modi asserted and stated that the law and order situation in the State has also improved considerably.

Several insurgents from the North East have also returned to the mainstream, he added.

Further stating that hills-valley relations have also improved considerably due to the implementation of programmes such as Go to Hills and Go to Village, Narendra Modi warned that there is a certain element that wants to hinder the developmental pace of the State and the country.

"Let's not hand over the State to this element again," he said.

The country is marching forward under the mantra "Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikash, Sabka Vishwas," Narendra Modi said and urged the people of Manipur to not waste any time and focus on development.

He exuded confidence that the people of Manipur would cast their votes to ensure the return of the double engine Government.

Saying that he is elated to see many people welcoming him warmly, the Prime Minister conveyed new year greetings to one and all.

The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for five National Highway Projects to be built at a cost of more than Rs 1700 crore.

He inaugurated the steel bridge built over the Barak River on NH-37, at a cost of over Rs 75 crore, which would decongest traffic between Silchar and Imphal.

He also dedicated 2387 mobile towers built at a cost of around Rs 1100 crore to the people of Manipur.

Narendra Modi inaugurated Rs 280 crore worth 'Water Transmission System of Thoubal Multi-Purpose Project', which will provide drinking water to Imphal city; a water supply scheme built at a cost of Rs 65 crore to provide drinking water to residents of ten habitations of Tamenglong district and the 'augmentation of Senapati District Headquarters Water Supply Scheme' built at a cost of Rs 51 crore to provide regular water supply to the residents of the area.

The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of a 'State of the Art Cancer Hospital' in Imphal worth around Rs 160 crore on a PPP basis.

He inaugurated the 200 bedded Covid Hospital at Kiyamgei which has been set up at a cost of about Rs 37 crore in collaboration with DRDO.

The Prime Minister inaugurated three projects under 'Imphal Smart City Mission', developed at a cost of more than Rs 170 crore, including the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC)', 'Development of Western River Front on Imphal River (Phase I)' and 'Development of Mall Road at Thangal Bazar (Phase I)'.

The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of 'Centre for Invention, Innovation, Incubation and Training (CIIIT)' to be built in the State at a cost of about Rs 200 crore.

He also laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Manipur Institute of Performing Arts at Gurgaon, Haryana, to be built at a cost of more than Rs 240 crore.

The programme was also attended by Governor La Ganesan; Union Ministers Bhupendra Yadav, RK Ranjan; Chief Minister N Biren ; Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar; MPs Dr Lorho S Pfoze, Leishemba Sanajaoba, MC Mary Kom and State Ministers.
