Imphal, November 02 2026:
The imperative need to elect only capable and honest leaders was underscored at the third foundation of Manipur Youth League (MAYOL) held today at Chanura Leikol, Khurai Angom Leikai, Imphal East.
Speaking at the gathering, former Department of Anthropology, Head, MU Prof W Nabakumar remarked that the foundation of Manipuri civilization is steadily breaking down.
He called upon all citizens to elect only honest and capable leaders who take the people's voice as God's voice.
Manipuri society, at present, is suffering from myriad ills and its economy is in a very bad shape.
It's time for all the people to ponder over how these ills should be addressed, Prof Nabakumar said.

He said that it's time for all the hill people and plain people to work for a united, resurgent Manipur.
While highlighting the challenges posed by illegal immigrants to the integrity of Manipur, he stressed the need to initiate urgent remedial measures in order to address economic issues and the deteriorating education system.
Saying that it is imperative to correct the political leaders of the State, Prof Nabakumar called upon all citizens to elect capable, responsible and social-minded representatives.
"Let's elect representatives who can enact laws for the welfare of the State", he said.
He urged voters to press the NOTA button if all the contesting candidates are deemed unfit.
MAYOL founding president Asem Prince said that the MAYOL was formed by youth and college/university students with the goal of saving Manipuri society.
There is a general notion that Manipur cannot survive without aid from New Delhi, he said before calling upon one and all to take the responsibility of remedying the State's sick economy.
Using Kuki narco-terrorists as their proxy army, the Government of India has been waging a proxy war in Manipur, targeting Meiteis and Nagas one after another, he said.
Saying that Manipur is currently passing through a phase of decadence on all fronts, Prince called upon all indigenous people to join hands and work collectively to save Manipur.
MAYOL chief advisor Longjam Ratan too appealed to all citizens to elect social-minded, honest, competent and courageous representatives so that there is a benevolent and corruption-free Government in the State.
The State's political leaders must know the political history of Manipur and also the political relationship shared between India and Manipur, he asserted.
He also underscored the need to revitalise the State's economy.
MAYOL president Koijam Suresh said that MAYOL has been carrying out a sustained campaign under the banner "Vote for National Regeneration" together with Meira Paibis and CSOs.
Saying that MAYOL will launch several awareness campaigns with special reference to the 13th Manipur Legislative Assembly election which is due early next year, Suresh said that the 13th Manipur Legislative Assembly election will determine the fate of Manipur.
It's time to demonstrate that the real power in a democratic country lies in citizens/voters, not the elected representatives, he asserted.
Appealing to all voters not to sell their voting rights for some cash, he exhorted youths to join electoral politics in order to bring about a welfare State and a progressive Nation.
MAYOL general secretary Tongbram Nardaya said that MAYOL was set up on November 2, 2023 .
Since its establishment, MAYOL has been campaigning for electoral reforms, economic nationalism and enhanced productivity, he said.
He appealed to all voters to make public announcements that no money will be entertained in exchange for exercising one's right to adult franchise according to his/her own free will.
