Imphal, December 21 2009:
The Election Commission has sought a report with video clippings about the statement made by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi at World Disability Day observance on December 3 .
Following complaint filed by the then BJP State unit president Dr Haobam Borbabu that the Chief Minister's statement had the potential to influence voters of Yaiskul Assembly constituency which went to by-poll on December 19, SDO Patsoi conducted an enquiry.
Even as report of the enquiry has been submitted to the Election Commission, the EC is seeking another report from the Chief Election Officer of the State by tomorrow.
The report of the enquiry conducted by the Patsoi SDO remarked that the Chief Minister's statement at the World Disability Day observance was not a political speech.
But the BJP contended that the Chief Minister's statement of opening schools and separate employment exchange for disabled persons as well the announcement of 3 percent reservation for them in job recruitment had potential to influence of Yaiskul by-election.
