MP Dr T Meinya opens handicraft mela at Thoubal

Imphal, December 27 2009: Member of the Parliament, Dr T Meinya today opened a 10-day long Crafts Mela at Khangabok New Market organised under the Social Environmental Economic Development Society under the sponsorship of the Union ministry of DoNER.

Speaking on the occasion, T Meinya has called for exploring indigenous products of the state and exports it outside the state and displays the crafts products of the state.

Observing that handicraft products of Kouna of the state is very popular outside the state, Meinya called for producing various products of Kouna with designs based on indigenous culture of the state and sold it to the market outside the state.

Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal district, RK Dinesh who graced the function as guest of honour appealed the people to take a major role in producing handicraft products as these products as it help the state in exposing to the other part of the globe.

Adhayaksha of the Thoubal Zilla Parishad, MA Latif who presided over the function observed that people of Khangabok area are producing products of kouna since long time and its profession has been a proud for the Thoubal district while drawing the attention of the government authority for taking initiative in the development of the handicraft works of the place by extending assistances.
