'Govt to recruit 2700 primary teachers for RMSA'

Imphal, July 12 2011: In an act of giving inspirations to the students who excel in their academic careers, the Board of Secondary Education Manipur today rewarded toppers of the High School Leaving Examination (HSLCE) 2011 in a function held at JN Dance Academy, Imphal.

Dr J Suresh Babu, Principal Secretary Education (S) who attended the function said that government is planning to recruit 2700 new primary teachers for RMSA project in the state.

In order to meet the provision of the Right to Education Act state needs 335 more primary schools which the state government is planning to set up as soon as possible.

Government is also planning to upgrade 200 primary schools into upper primary schools.

He said that the problems and mistakes in the Education Department have become more like a legacy with the past mistakes of former officials.

There is no one to blame for the problems inside the department.

Instead of blaming one another, now is the time to set right the past mistakes and strive for a better education system in the state.

The pass percentage of 71 percent in the HSLC Examination this year is a sign of developing education system in the state.

Although students faced problems of unavailability of text books in this year, the department is exerting all its might to prevent the problem in the next year by completing all publication works by December this year.

He further said that the nature of the government teachers who do not like to go to hill areas to do their duties is the most major cause of improper transfer and distribution of teachers in government schools throughout the state.

According to provisions of the department the student teacher ratio for a primary school must be 30:1 and 35:1 for upper primary schools.

There are many irregularities in the ratio throughout the state.

Many teachers who are posted in hill areas keep a substitute teacher to do their duty while they slip off from their duties in their homes.

Retired Director, Education (S) E Yaiskul graced the function as chief guest.

Education Director W Rajen, MCS also attended as guest of honour.

Rajen in a speech said that students used to study hard and also participate in various social issues.

However some students of today are so much engrossed in their study that they could not participate in social issues while going for their tuition.

The excess academic exercise being given to the students are taking them from education of human value indirectly.

If such situation persists for a long time, then the time will come when human being will become more like a robot rather than a human.

Top students of the HSLC Examinations 2011 who succeeded the examination in 1st to 10th position were inspired with Board Award, 2011.Moreover subject toppers of the different subjects offered by the BSEM were also honoured with different dedicated prizes.

K Gouro and Amusana Memorial Award, Kabi Khwairakpam Chaoba Award, State Award on Science Popularisation by Science and Technology Department, Elangbam Bokul and Lakhi Award, Literature Award and Aribam Krishnamohon Award are some notable awards among the 23 different awards given to subject toppers.
