Imphal, June 09 2013:
Endorsing the demand of Joint Committee of Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) for implementation of ILP System in the State to check unrestrained influx of non-locals, the women vendors of Khwairamband Ema Keithel held a sit-in-protest at the market by abstaining from work today.
However, the police foiled a mass rally of the women vendors who came to submit a memorandum to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi at his residence in the evening.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, one woman vendor said that the JCILPS has taken up a noble cause of safeguarding the rights of indigenous people by demanding the implementation of ILP System in the State.

The volunteers have been doing selfless tasks for the welfare and betterment of the State, but Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has termed the people's movement as anti-national much contrary to the aspirations of the people.
The State government is inefficient in administering the State as the ILP System is still not implemented despite a resolution taken in the State Assembly.
The State government is like a "puppet" at the hands of the Central leaders.
The indifferent attitude of the State government towards this issue of Inner Line Permit System is quite condemnable, she averred.
The woman further maintained that the right time has come for the people of the State to defend themselves from the advancement of the non-locals.
The movement for ILP System would continue until the system is implemented again in the State after it was revoked by the then Chief Commissioner Himat Singh in 1950, she added.
Shopkeepers from Paona Bazar, Thangal Bazar and Dharmasala also participated in the sit-in-protest which started from 10 am till late evening.
