Imphal, June 04 2024:
Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) has informed that power supply that was affected following the recent flood has been fully restored in numerous areas within Imphal West and Imphal East districts as the state continues to limp back to normal after the devastation caused by the Cyclone Remal-induced heavy downpour.
According to the MSPDCL, some areas including Nagaram, Tangkhul Avenue, Chingmeirong, Laipham Khunou, Lairikyengbam Leikai, Paomai Colony, Meetei Kairang, Ahallup Makha Leikai, Kairang Muslim, Majorkhul, MG Avenue, ISBT, Namdulong (Pandon) North and South, 2nd MR complex, Hotel Imphal, MPSC office, etc., remain without power.
These areas were primarily served by feeders from the heavily flooded 33/11 kV Sub-stations at Khuman Lampak and Mantripukhri.
Efforts are ongoing to supply power to these areas from alternative 33/11 kV sub-stations, the company informed, adding that high tension lines have been kept in readiness for restoration of power supply once the flood recedes completely.
While power in most other districts has been restored, parts of Noney and Tamenglong districts are still under restoration process, according to a statement of MSPDCL.
Daily life in the capital city started to gradually return to normalcy as flood waters were drained out from low-lying areas and level of river water receded after over four days of flowing in spate or overflowing the banks.
Residents in several parts of Imphal resumed daily activities, with shops reopening and people stepping out in large numbers to purchase essential commodities.
Public carriers, previously disrupted by the flooding, also started operation.
However, thousands of flood-affected people are still taking refuge in various relief camps across the state with government agencies, security forces, local clubs, organisations, and NGOs actively engaged in providing essential supplies, including water and food, to those affected by the flooding.
To combat the surge in waterborne diseases typically seen during such times, the authorities distributed bottles of clean drinking water.
Security forces along with Manipur Fire Service teams have also started work to clear obstructions and restore the flow of the Naga River at North AOC and other areas within the capital city to drain floodwater and clean waterlogged areas.
