'Disturbance-Free Educational Zone Demand' gains momentum in Manipur

Imphal, July 31 2026: As part of its month-long 'Disturbance-Free Educational Zone Demand' campaign, the Coordinating Committee on Disturbance-Free Educational Zone Demand on Friday organised awareness programmes at Shishu Nistha Niketan School, Kwakeithel Mayaikoibi, and Pitambara English School, Kwakeithel Heinoukhongnembi in Imphal West district.

Committee resource persons explained to students of both schools the purpose and importance of demanding a disturbance-free educational zone.

Later, students of both schools staged a demonstration in front of their school gates, raising slogans demanding that schools be declared disturbance-free zones.

They also called for an end to monetary demands, including illegal fund collection in educational institutions.

The students displayed placards and banners with demands including: no extortion or monetary demands by any group in schools and colleges; no politicisation of education by the Government; a Government law to ensure at least 220 teaching days in a year; timely implementation of Government works to prevent academic loss; no corruption, nepotism or favouritism in education-related matters.

Other demands included appointment of qualified directors in Education (S) and Education (U), setting up a separate Directorate for Teacher Education, and ensuring the Government's transfer and posting policy is not used as a source of revenue.

The committee asserted that school authorities, teachers and students must sincerely perform their respective duties.

It also urged the Government to include the education sector under essential services and make educational institutions free from violence.
