Dy CM lays school foundation stone

Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar has stated that it is time to restore proper teaching system in Government schools in the State.
After laying the foundation stone for construction of Wangdei Primary School at Langol in Imphal West today, Deputy Chief Minister Joykumar said, teaching method in Government Schools in the past was very effective as homework, class work and weekly examinations were conducted regularly.
But in modern days, it has been diminished due to many reasons.
He said, teacher-pupil ratio in most of the government schools needs to be checked as teachers outnumber against students in some schools.
School management and development committees should also play a pivotal role to monitor the system.
Recalling his early days while he was in Government school, Y.Joykumar Singh said, in those days students from Government schools secured premier positions in most of the competitive examinations because the teaching system in those days was very effective.
All stake holders should co-operate to ensure a good system in the days to come, he added.
Expressing concern over the tuition culture and mushrooming of private schools nowadays, he said, it cannot make the students self-reliant in problem solving and other learning methods.
He exuded confidence that the primary school which is to be constructed under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) will cater to the need of students in Langol Area.
President of Wangdei Meitei Leikai Union Chingangbam Shamungou also spoke on the occasion, conveyed a press release issued by DIPR.
