110th death anniversary

The 100th death anniversary of Major Chongtham Mia was held at Nagamapal Singjubung Leirak today, under the aegis of Maj or Chongtham Mia Memorial Committee, Manipur.
Floral tributes were paid to the photograph of Major Chongtham Mia and Pena Seishak as well as other religious procession were organised as a part of the death anniversary.
Speaking at the event, the committee's secretary Chongtham Ibungo said that Major Chongtham Mia was born in 1841 at Khwai Lalambung Nagamapal Singjubung Leirak.
He mentioned that Chongtham Mia's real name was Iboton and the name Mia was given to him by Maharaja Chandrakirti, Mia's father, Chongtham Budhiram (Badrian) was a member of Manipur Levy, which was created after the seven years devastation of Manipur at the hands of the Burmese.
Chongtham Ibungo also narrated the life history of the brave Major and the battles he fought and how he sacrificed his life for the motherland.
He also conveyed that the death anniversary is also observed in a similar style by Major Chongtham Mia Memorial Trust, Tripura.
