Committee seeks support from public on Thoubal district bandh

United Action Committee from Lilong to Wangjing appealed the public to extend their full support to the bandh called by the committee in Thoubal District on September 14 and 15 in protest against the biased attitude of Thoubal DC in road expansion work along National Highway 102.In a public meeting held today at Thoubal Wangmataba in the presence of representatives of the committee from Lilong bazar, Usoipokpi bazar, Waithou bazar, Haokha-Kiyam Siphai, Thoubal bazar, Thoubal Athokpam, Khangabok bazar and Wangjing bazaar, President of the Committee W Ibopishak the bandh is called to protect the interest of the poor people who are seeking their legal rights.
"The Committee is not the against the expansion work of road taken up by the authority concerned but the nature of acquiring land from the affected Pattadars violated many protocols and the DC Thoubal never took their pleas into consideration on numerous occasion which has compelled us to call Thoubal District bandh", said W Ibopishak.
The application of Land Acquisition Act 2013 while acquiring land in Imphal West area and the direct purchase of land in Thoubal district has clearly violated the rights of the pattadars, he added.
He continued that the manner in which the lands were acquired from pattadars has also caused a lot of confusion as the authority concerned did not issue a Notice to clarify their stand on the quantum of land essential for the road expansion work while condemning that the DC Thoubal hold an indifferent attitude towards the people.
Meanwhile, Lilong Kendra Development and Demand Committee, Committee on NH-102 Expansion from Lilong to Waithou and Committee on Unnatural Alignment of Highway Expansion from Kaleikhong to Usoipokpi also expressed their solidarity to the bandh called by United Action Committee from Lilong to Wangjing.
