Testing equipment airlifted from Imphal to Aizawl

Imphal, June 05 2020:
Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Takyelpat have handed one Real Time-PCR (Quant Studio TM 5) to Mizoram Govt to facilitate the COVID-19 testing laboratory set up at the Zoram Medical College, Aizawl today.
The equipment along with consumable was airlifted from Imphal airport by a helicopter arranged by Mizoram Govt and the same was formally handed over to the authority of Department of Science and Technology, Mizoram by the scientists and staff of Aizawl Centre of IBSD.
It may be noted that RT-PCR is one of the most accurate laboratory methods for detecting, tracking and studying the coronavirus.
The equipment along with consumable was lent on the request of Govt of Mizoram and Zoram Medical College.
It may be mentioned that IBSD under the guidance of its Director Prof Pulok Kumar Mukherjee is supporting the COVID testing facilities at RIMS and JNIMS.
IBSD, Imphal already lent one RT-PCR and RNA extraction equipment to RIMS, Imphal to reduce the testing load at their testing centre to some extent.
One of its kind was also lent to JNIMS's testing centre earlier and required manpower was also deputed to the testing centres of RIMS and JNIMS, said IBSD in a statement.
