Biswajit holds meeting with PIAs on MGNREGS

"COVID-19 pandemic should not deter us but strengthen our commitment to make the State self reliant," said Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Minister Biswajit today.
He said the above at Panchayat Resource Centre, Bishnupur Mini Secretariat during a meeting of the Programme Implementing Agencies (PIAs), Department official on Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
During the meeting, the Minister addressed various issues facing the State in implementation of the MGNREGS and asserted that even though 100 days work is guaranteed under the Act, all States could not facilitate the same.
In 2019-2020, on an average, the State provided 48 days work.
Some districts provided 56 days works, also, he said.
MGNREGS depends on work demand.
The State is trying its best to ensure 100 days of work to the beneficiaries, he said adding PRIs (Panchayati Raj Institutions) hold the key to achieving the target.
Appealing labourers and workers concerned to reap the benefits of the scheme, he said that people of the State should not be deterred by the COVID-19 pandemic, but strengthen their resolve to survive it and make the State self reliant.
He also informed that some of the pending honoraria of beneficiaries (Job card holders) are not released, even though the same have been credited the BDOs accounts, due to incomplete works and "lack of logo" .
Appealing Zila Parishad Members and Pradhans concerned to complete the formalities needed for release of the honoraria, the Minister said, above the Rs 720 crore released earlier, an additional Rs 222 crore will be released soon for MGNREGS.
MLAs - Tongbram Robindro, Laishram Radhakishore, S Bira, Bishnupur Zila Parishad Adhyaksha Dr L Romabati and RD&PR Deputy Secretary Lolruboul Fimate were present in, the meeting.
The Minister along with officials also planted saplings in line with World Environment Day.
The same meeting was also held for Thoubal district at Kshetri Shanglen.
