No vaccination, no selling or buying, asserts CM
Biren reiterates govt's commitment to fight illicit drug trafficking

Imphal, June 26 2021: Chief minister N Biren Singh has announced that the state would start opening up offices and shops very soon but only those who have vaccination certificates would be allowed to come out and carry out buying and selling activities.

Answering media queries during the distribution of eight ambulances to the six Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) of the state organised by Department of Tribal Affairs & Hills (TA & Hills) at the western gate of the Chief Minister's bungalow on Saturday, CM Biren informed that the recovery rate increased significantly with around 4,000 patients recovering the previous day.

He also said that the number of active cases has almost come down to half and the death rate to single digit only.

While pointing out that mass vaccination is the most vital measure to successfully fight the pandemic, N Biren stated that many mobile teams have been formed to vaccinate as many people as possible.

For this the government has sanctioned conversion of Manipur Road Transport Corporation (MS-RTC) buses as mobile ambulances, he added.

Observing that June 26 is observed all over the world as International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the chief minister expressed serious concern as sale of illicit drugs still continues in the state even during this crucial hour of Covid-19 pandemic.

However, he maintained that the state government has been putting in tireless effort to curb drug abuse and its trafficking since the commencement of its 'War on Drugs' campaign and further appreciated the sincere effort on the part of the state police, Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) and the support of the public in the government's fight to root out drug menace from the state.

N Biren further said that many voluntary organisations across the state including from both hill and valley regions have come out and given support to the 'War on Drugs' campaign and this has been of great help in curbing illicit trafficking of drugs.

He also expressed gratitude to all the stakeholders for their positive response in destroying poppy plantations in many places and substituting it with other suitable crop plants.

He maintained that the government would continue to take stringent action against drug traffickers and put all possible efforts to totally root out drug related activities from the state.

During the programme, chief minister Biren handed over eight ambulances as part of 2nd Phase of distribution consisting of one Advanced Life Support (ALS) each for all the six ADCs and one Basic Life Support (BLS) each for Senapati and Tamenglong ADCs.

It may be mentioned that in the 1st Phase, the CM handed over 10 ambulances on June 16 including two BLS each to the ADCs of Churachandpur, Chandel, Kangpokpi and Ukhrul districts, and one BLS each to the ADCs of Tamenglong and Senapati districts.

Forest minister Awangbow Newmai, Tribal Affairs & Hills minister Vungzagin Valte, additional chief secretary (TA & Hills) Letkhogin Haokip, TA & Hills director C Authur Worchuiyo and officials of ADCs and TA & Hills Department also attended the programme.
