Jiribam, October 23 2024:
The 20th CPI (Marxist) Jiribam Local Conference was held today at Sorok Atingbi in Jiribam today.
During the conference, a new Jiribam Local Committee was formed with Aziz Haidar appointed as the secretary without any contest, as per a press release.
The conference was graced by Moirangthem Gopal, Aziz Haidar and Soraisam Thoibi Devi as the presidium members.
The gathering observed a 2-minute silence to pay their respects to recently passed global leaders, Indian politicians including Sitaram Yechury, general secretary of CPI and Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Indian communist politician and former Chief Minister of West Bengal as well as the martyrs of the State who have valiantly laid down their lives during the ongoing conflict to safeguard Manipur.
Addressing the gathering, Kshetrimayum Santa, secretary, State Committee, CPI (M), said that leaders of the BJP-led NDA Government are engaged in hostility amongst themselves instead of uniting to hack out a solution to the Manipur crisis.
The Government is neither capable of bringing Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the State to give him a first hand account of the ground situation, nor able to arrange a meeting to discuss the matter directly with him in Delhi, said Ksh Santa.
He asserted that this situation has been caused by selfish State legislators.
The State can be saved from such dire circumstances only when the people unite and launch a mass movement, he opined.
During the conference, the CPI (M) resolved to take up measures to improve road conditions, plug the shortages prevailing in educational institutions in the district, introduce contemporary vocational subjects in Jiribam College which will encourage students from the district and beyond to enroll, upgrade medical infrastructure, ensure year-long supply of potable water and set up industries to generate employment, among others.
