Imphal, December 08 2022: Four persons arrested in connection with the Telipati incident have been released on bail by the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East today afternoon.

The four persons identified as Lairellakpam Kalu (29) of Kongpal Khongkham Leikai, Oinam Robin (29) of Chingmeirong Maning Leikai, Thangjam Devakanta (24) of Khurai Ahongei and Takhelmayum Tinku (34) of Khurai Kongpal Chingnangbam Leikai were produced before the Court by a team of Porompat police station after the completion of police custody period.

Notably, they were arrested after the Telipati incident of December 5 night which saw burning down vehicles and destroying of properties "with intent to encourage hatred and clash between communities".

During the hearing today, the Court, on perusal of the case records and after hearing the submissions of the prosecutor and defense counsels, ordered the release of the four on bail.

Meanwhile, prohibitions under Section 144 have been imposed in the whole of Imphal East for two months with effect from December 7 .
