Kakching, August 31 2024:
All Kha Kanglei Students' Union (AKKSU) has underscored the shortcomings of the State Government's School Fagathansi Mission and its failure to reach schools in the peripheral areas.
AKKSU organised a social service drive at Hiyanglam Hiranmayi Turel Manbi Primary School as the campus was largely overgrown with vegetation causing difficulties to the young students.
Speaking in this connection, Salam Sonia, secretary, All Kha Kanglei Students' Union pointed out that the School Fagathansi Mission appears to have no reach in the Government schools located in the outskirts of the State.
Sonia further said that Hiyanglam Hiranmayi Turel Manbi Primary School has only two teachers though there are 56 students enrolled at the school.
On top of not having enough classrooms, the condition of the classrooms are less than desirable.
As the teachers do not have a separate room, the classrooms also serve as an administrative office, she added.
On another note, she ac-cused a certain student body of collecting money from Kakching teachers as well as taking the rice reserved for school students' mid-day meals.
Stating that All Kha Kanglei Students' Union has legitimate proof of such misdeeds, she further appealed against continuation of such activities.
Meanwhile, Elangbam Bilasini, member, Punshi Lamjing Meira Village Level Federation shared that the primary school was in a state of absolute decline some time ago.
However, with the help of locals who send their children to this school, three teachers were hired via pooling of funds.
She made an earnest appeal to the State Government to improve the condition of the school by covering it under the State Fagathansi Mission.
Stressing on the poor infrastructure, shortage of teachers and other such shortcomings, she urged the relevant authority to alleviate the students' hardships in acquiring their education.
