Imphal, December 20 2020:
L Sotinkumar, secretary Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur, has asserted that the BJP led Government has turned the State into a den of drugs .
Briefing media persons at Irawat Bhawan today, Sotinkumar continued the CPI, Manipur convened a high-level meeting today and discussed issues which are overwhelming the State.
He claimed that the State Government is not sincere in its fight against the dreaded pandemic, but take it as an opportune time to earn easy money.
Sotinkumar also stated that the State Government resolving not to hold Winter Assembly Session is very unfortunate for the people as it is akin to ignoring their duties as people's representatives.
Speaking about the drug haul case of 2018 which involved former Chairman of ADC Chandel, Sotinkumar asked why the State Government attempted to free this particular man from the charges levelled against him instead of approaching a higher Court.
Asking if the Government is deliberately planning to turn Manipur into a den of drugs, Sotinkumar said that involvement of Ministers and MLAs in drug smuggling cases is also a possibility, CPI will play a vital role in shaping the future of Manipur by forming a new front along with secular and democratic forces, he said and added that the front will confront drugs and corruption-related issues.
CPI leader Dr M Nara said that drug issues that have become the talk of the town should not be taken lightly.
Dr Nara also said that the Government is making the essence of election pointless by resolving not to hold winter Assembly session.
If an Assembly session is called just to rubber-stamp a decision of certain Ministers, then it is very unfortunate for the people of Manipur, he said and added that continuing such practises would be akin to violating Indian Constitution.
Saying that people are not satisfied with the War on Drugs campaign, he added that people can no longer tolerate drug lords being protected by the system.
Dr Nara contended that the saffron party doesn't care for the poor.
"CPI acknowledged that the real warrior of War on drugs is former Additional SP NAB, Th Brinda Devi and as such we bestow her the Woman of the Year 2020 title," Dr Nara added.
