World Kidney Day observed

Shija Institute of Renal Sciences, a unit of Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI) has observed the World Kidney Day under the theme "Kidney disease and obesity" at SHRI auditorium.
Speaking at the programme, Dr Guliver Potsangbam said, "The World Kidney Day has been observed here today in order to raise awareness on how to prevent kidney related diseases" .
There are 8 golden to reduce the risk for kidney disease.
Among these rules, some which both young and old alike can follow are regular exercise, drinking adequate water and maintaining healthy diet, he said and informed, "The main cause of kidney failure is diabetes and hypertension.
One should maintain his or her weight as obesity increases the risk of kidney disease.
Obesity is preventable and so is kidney disease provided one maintains a healthy lifestyle" .
"Kidney transplant is possible only when there is a donor.
As such, we should appreciate their kindness.
Shija Hospitals has performed kidney transplantation on patients successfully.
This service can be availed by people of Manipur without having to spend huge amount of money outside the State," he said.
Dr Somorendro, consultant urologist & renal transplant surgeon, Shija Institute of Renal Sciences, said that people in hill areas have little knowledge on kidney disease.
Therefore, it is necessary to conduct awareness programme on the same frequently.
Dr Jugindro, director, Medical Services, SHRI was also present at the programme.
As part of the World Kidney Day observation, RIMS Hospital Nephrology Section has organised a free health camp at RIMS campus today.
Dr N Saratkumar, Head, Nephrology Section, RIMS Hospital said, "The free health camp includes blood donation, kidney function test, blood sugar test and urine test.
One should not wait until he or she gets sick to get medical treatment.
Necessary medical check-up should be done in order to detect any ailment and get proper treatment on time" .
The health camp was led by 20 doctors and 20 nurses of RIMS Hospital.
Sky Hospital, RIMS Road has also observed the World Kidney Day today.
Dr L Shyamkishore, chairman, Sky Hospital and Research Centre advised the people to maintain a healthy lifestyle in order to remain physically fit.
"Taking medical advice is important.
Some people have a habit of ignoring doctor's advice or going overboard while consuming medical prescription.
Such habit should be discouraged as it will not cure the disease," he added.
