Thoubal, October 22 2026:
The Joint Action Committee formed in connection with the incident that occurred during a musical event on the night of October 18 at CYSA Playground, located in the adjoining areas of Khangabok and Sangaiyumpham under Thoubal Police Station, has called a 48-hour general strike across the State beginning at 5 am on October 23, 2026 (tomorrow) .
It may be noted that 26 year old Laishram Rakesh was killed during this incident after being hit by a stray bullet.
JAC member Kh Santa announced the decision to call the general strike while addressing the public who were staging a sit-in protest today in front of Khangabok Higher Secondary School.
Earlier, the JAC members submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding justice.
Santa expressed discontentment over the Government's failure to apprehend all the culprits involved in the killing despite four days having passed since the incident.
The JAC resolved to call the general strike in view of the Government's failure to take appropriate action, he said.
He also sought support from civil society organisations of the State for the JACs call for justice.
He further informed that religious and medical services will be exempted from the purview of the 48-hour Statewide general strike.
