Protest against drivers, handyman kidnapping

Imphal, January 21, 2011:
A sit-in protest at Mantripukhri today decried the kidnapping of two drivers and a handyman of bullet tankers by activists of the Karbi People Liberation Tigers (KPLT) on a ransom demand of ' 50 lakh.
Family members of the three kidnapped persons, Longjam Arun and Thokchom Jiten, and handyman Naorem Suresh and members of the All Manipur Road Transport Drivers' and Motor Workers' Union took part in the protest.
Talking to reporters, AMRTD & MWU's general secretary H Kullamani said that since the kidnapping of the three men, drivers of bullet tankers are in fear of resuming their service.
The sit-in protest which was started around 11 am went on till 2 pm.
The protersters urged the kidnappers to release the three men unharmed and unconditionally.
They also blamed the state government for not addressing the problem.
