Bishnupur, September 20 2024:
Transgender social activist Malem Thongam has declared that she will initiate a "suicide protest" in front of the Chief Minister's bungalow if the 10 Kuki MLAs are not removed and their Constitutional powers are not revoked within 15 days.
Malem Thongam made the statement after submitting a 4-point memorandum to Bishnupur DC accompanied by other transgender activists.
A protest was also staged at Bishnupur Keithel today in this connection.
Speaking to the media, Malem Thongam accused the 10 Kuki MLAs of violating the Indian Constitution by supporting the Kuki militants, which in turn has allegedly led to failure in resolving the conflict.
She added that since February 22, many representations have been submitted to the Manipur Governor, Chief Minister and political party leaders.
If the Government fails to give a positive response within 15 days to the memorandum handed over to Bishnupur DC today to be submitted to the Chief Minister, then a suicide protest will be launched in front of the Chief Minister's bungalow, she asserted.
The memorandum demanded removal of two Kuki Ministers from their Cabinet post, removal of Kuki Ministers and MLAs from the party, taking away of powers accorded to them by the House and declaration of Kuki militants as "terrorists" .
