Prof H Nandakumar appointed Manipur University's Vice chancellor

Manipur University's Professor of Physics and present Acting Vice chancellor Prof Hidangmayum Nandakumar Sarma has been appointed as Vice Chancellor of the varsity with immediate effect.
a circular by the President of India, in her capacity as the Visitor (Manipur University) has confirmed appointment of Prof Nandakumar as the VC, informed a statement issued by the varsity's Registrar N Lokendra Singh.
Born on March 1, 1947 at Uripok Ahanthem Leikai, Prof Nandakumar is at present the senior most professor of Manipur University.
having graduated from DM College (then under Gauhati University) with 1st Class Honours in Physics, Prof Nandakumar completed post-graduate studies at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in 1968 and served as lecturer at Manipur College for a brief period.
It is informed that award of JRF, CSIR and later SRF, CSIR took him back to BHU to pursue research work, followed by another scholarship in 1972 paving the way for a stint at the University of London during which he worked at the prestigious Rutherford Laboratory and the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Research Establishment.

On his return to India in 1977, Nandakumar Sarma was awarded his 2nd PhD Degree from BHU for his earlier research work and in the same year joined Jawaharlal Nehru University Centre for PG studies, Imphal (later merged into Manipur University) as Senior Fellow (associate Professor) .
Establishment/opening of various departments in Manipur University such as Department of Physics, Computer Center, Computer Science Department and Earth Science Department has been attributed to Prof Nandakumar's relentless effort.
In addition to being Dean of School of Science from January 1988 and assuming charge as the Pro Vice Chancellor from 2006 as his most recent responsibility in the varsity, Prof Nandakumar also supervised 10 PhD scholars, published more than 50 research papers in reputed international and national journals of high impact factor and has successfully handled various projects funded by different agencies like DST, UGC, DAE, DRDO etc.
