On the 15th death anniversary of its founding president Nehlun Kipgen, the Kuki National Front (KNF) paid fitting tributes to the late leader yesterday.
According to a statement issued by KNF information and publicity secretary LH Stephen, Nehlun Kipgen founded the KNF on May 18, 1988 to protect the interest of the Kukis and fight for the rights of self governance guaranteed to all citizens of India by its constitution.
Since the KNF was founded, memoranda were submitted to the Government of India demanding a separate State Government for the Kuki community of India.
Urging for the same demand, agitation of different forms were also carried out under the guidance and leadership of Nehlun Kipgen.
But before the goal achieved, Nehlun was killed by the bullet of security forces on October 12, 2003 at Motbung.
In commemoration of his death anniversary, floral tributes were paid at his memorial tomb by KNF cadres yesterday.
Prayer services and fasting were also observed to mark the occasion by all members and cadres of the front.
Speaking on the occasion, KNF president ST Thangboi reminded the cadres of the sacrifices made by the founding president.
Thangboi said that Nehlun Kipgen's, sacrifice was a seed which he had sown for the cadres to nurture and bring it to fruition.
The KNF president further urged the people to continue their support and pray for the well being of the organisation.
