Imphal, September 06 2024:
The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) and the Tangkhul Naga Valley Students' Association (TNVSA) have condemned the road block set up at Yaingangpokpi along National Highway-202 (Imphal-Ukhrul road) .
The road block was however lifted today.
TNL, in a press release signed by its vice president RS Jollyson, said that the bandh imposed on Imphal-Ukhrul road for 48 hours from September 6 is highly regrettable and objectionable.
Saying that they object to the culture of highway bandhs called for all kinds of frivolous reasons, TNL stated that people, if they have any grievances, should sort out the issue with the authority concerned without disrupting the daily activities of the people.
TNVSA, on the other hand, said that they understand the grievances of the community concerned setting up the blockade, however, the blockade has only affected the lives of the citizens living in Ukhrul and Kamjong, especially the Tangkhul Naga community who has been remaining neutral in the ongoing conflict.
The National Highway acts as a lifeline to the Tangkhul Naga community living in Ukhrul and Kamjong, the Association continued.
Stating that it is not the people of Kamjong or Ukhrul who are keeping the Jat Regiment along the highway, TNVSA appealed to all concerned to impose the blockade somewhere else.
"The people should know whom or what they are fighting for/against and set up dharna (protests) at the offices concerned, and not hamper the livelihood of innocent citizens and their right to live in peace and harmony," TNVSA added.
While calling for an end to the culture of bandhs and blockades, the Association said that they will take up necessary steps if the blockade is not lifted.
Cease the blockade immediately, the Association appealed.
