Thoubal, August 31 2024:
Fourteen local clubs and the concerned local women's association have strongly condemned an incident wherein a 58-year old married man allegedly attempted to sexually violate a 34-year old intellectually disabled woman in Thoubal district on August 23 .
A public meeting was held today in this connection at the women association's office calling for legal action against the alleged perpetrator.
Addressing the gathering, Meisnam Manglembi, president of the women's association, stated that in the morning of August 23, Sairem Jiban (58), a married man with children, allegedly attempted to sexually assault the 34-year old mentally unsound woman.
Shockingly, she pointed out this marks Sairem Jiban's third such offence but in the earlier cases, the matter was dismissed due to lack of witnesses.
However, this time there is an eyewitness and the perpetrator cannot hide from his crime, she maintained.
Representatives of the women's association and the 14 local clubs had reportedly warned Sairem Jiban to accept his wrongdoings and publicly issue an apology.
Unfortunately, he has since absconded from his home.
On behalf of the local clubs and people of the area, Meisnam Manglembi has urged the relevant authority to book the culprit and dole out stringent punishment for his alleged crimes.
