Pineapples to be exported daily

Both organic and non-organic pineapples produced by local farmers will be airlifted and exported to Mumbai and Bangalore, said Project Director Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) and Mission Director MIDH, Kh Devdutta Sharma.
Speaking to media persons at his office at Sanjenthong, Devdutta said that the Department has now resumed purchase of pineapples from local farmers.
The initiative was started under the advice of Chief Minister Biren Singh, he said adding 3 to 4 tonnes of pineapples will be exported daily from Monday onwards.
He further said that Likla and Meira Foods have also shown interest in buying the pineapples.
The objective is provide market to the farmers and assist them during the lockdown, he added.
Pineapples getting rotten: Farmers
On the other hand, the All Manipur Progressive Farmers' Association (AMPFA) has said that due to the lockdown pineapple farmers are unable to sell their produce and as the pineapples are starting to rot, the farmers have urged the Government to buy the pineapples from them and make arrangement to sell it to other buyers.
