Imphal, September 24 2021:
The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has today submitted a memorandum to the Education Minister seeking the latter to initiate disciplinary action against Principal In-Charge of Naorem Birahari College Ningombam Shitaljit for his alleged involvement to secure the post of the college's Principal.
DESAM, in the memorandum highlighted there has been a race among teachers of the College to get the post of the Principal and the prevailing situation was badly affecting the educational environment and hindering the conduct of online classes.
The memorandum also mentioned that Shitaljit lacks basic eligibility criteria to become a lecturer of the college and asked for authorities concerned to look into the matter and put the lecturer under suspension until the inquiry upon him is over.
Meanwhile, Shitaljit held a press conference at his residence at Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai regarding the issue and clarified that there is no such race among teachers.
He said that he was named as Principal In-Charge of the College following a court verdict and expressed regret over efforts being made to discredit him by some teachers of the college.
His appointment is entirely out of college and concerned department's ambit and it will be wrong for a student body to jump into it and challenge the verdict of the Court.
He further stated that he joined Naorem Birahari College, Khundrakpam as a Physics teacher in the year 1993 and his appointment was made by the then College Principal with due approval from the college's governing body at a time when he was waiting for the final result of his master degree course.
He also continued that a newly drafted order for his appointment was also issued soon after the result was declared.
Denying the claim of DESAM that he was not assaulted at the student body's office some days back, Shitaljit said he has evidence and medical reports to prove that he was assaulted.
He said that he visited the DESAM office after he was called by the finance secretary of the body and one who identifies himself as Birjit on September 21 and was physically assaulted.
He further said that he holds no grudges with DESAM and expressed hope that the student body assists in letting Birjit surrender to the police and settle the case.
