Kangpokpi, March 28 2020: As instructed by the Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen today ensured distribution of rice, meant for April under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) free of cost to support the needy during the lockdown in respect of Kangpokpi and Senapati districts.

The Chief Minister had on Friday instructed his Cabinet Ministers to supervise various activities and measures carried out across the State to combat the highly contiguous COVID-19 and ensure smooth supply and transport of essential commodities to the people living across the State, including the remote areas, amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Nemcha Kipgen distributed the rice to the beneficiaries at FCS godown at Kangpokpi DHQs under Public Distribution System of the National Food Security Act in the presence DC Kangpokpi, AC to DC Kangpokpi, Sub Divisional Officers, DSO Kangpokpi and other officials concerned.

The Minister was in charge of Kangpokpi and Senapati districts to supervise various activities and measures carried out to combat the deadly COVID-19 pandemic and ensure smooth supply and transport of essential commodities to the people.

The rice was distributed to beneficiaries in respect of Tujang Waichong Sub Division and Kangpokpi Town today.

On Monday, beneficiaries in respect of Kangpokpi Sub Division and Champhai Sub Division will be distributed.

Similarly, distribution of rice for other sub divisions of Kangpokpi and Senapati district was carried by the respective department concerned.

The Minister said that the Government of Manipur is always there for its people and there is no need to panic as the Government continues to help and counter the outbreak of COVID-19 while trying the best possible ways to protect the most vulnerable.

While distributing the rice and handing over to the respective agents in the presence of the concerned village chiefs, Nemcha Kipgen instructed the village chief to supervise the distribution of rice at the village level and ensure each beneficiary avail it free of cost while cautioning that the village chief must not interfere in the distribution.

The Minister also instructed all concerned Sub Divisional Officers to monitor the distribution of rice by the FPS agents.

She said that people need not panic owing to the lockdown for food and other essential items as there is enough stock of rice and essential commodities for three months while assuring that the Government of Manipur will not let any of its people die out of starvation.

The Minister also said that close coordination has been maintained with the Deputy Commissioner Kangpokpi and Senapati with stringent instructions for adequate availability of rice and other essential commodities for the people during the lockdown.

Talking about the COVID-19 pandemic, the Minister said that, 'Stay Home' is the only and best medicine while our Prime Minister idea of 'Lockdown' is the only tool to combat and win the pandemic virus.

The Minister urged the people to dedicatedly follow the instructions and guidelines of the Government by staying home and not to venture out unnecessarily.
