Highlighting a marked increase in cases of snakes entering people homes in the last week, especially in the valley areas, People For Animals (PFA), Manipur has notified that it has rescued 9 snakes so far.
PFA Manipur appealed appealed to people who come across snakes in their homesteads to contact them at mobile no 9862107063 or call the nearest forest office instead of inflicting injury to the creatures.

However, in 2024, PFA Manipur sometimes received two reports a day or reports of snakes entering the same area repeatedly.
Stating that the Monocled Cobra (Kharou) are the most common snakes they have come across, PFA Manipur added that adult cobras measuring over 4 feet and weighing more than 1 kg are also a common sight.
Other species of snakes PFA Manipur has encountered include Copper Headed Trinket (Tanglei Wachet Manbi), Russell's Viper (Lindu) and Indo-Chinese Rat Snake (Taanglei).
According to N Hemeshwor, snake rescuer of PFA Manipur and PhD Research Scholar studying snake diversity in Manipur, the snakes are entering people's homes in Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal district due to extreme heat and human encroachment of their habitats.
He further pointed out the change in weather patterns and effects of climate change in the State.
Manipur University Research Scholar Th Jenish also provided assistance in rescuing the snakes, said PFA Manipur.
In addition, PFA Manipur has appealed to people who come across snakes in their homesteads to contact them at mobile no 9862107063 or call the nearest forest office instead of inflicting injury to the creatures.
