Locals of Thangmeiband Maisnam Leikai and volunteers of Thangmeiband United Club have started a relay hunger strike and blocked one side of the road demanding the immediate withdrawal of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 .
The relay hunger strike which is organized by Thangmeiband United Club and staged just opposite to THAU Ground will go on till February 12 .
Speaking to reporters on the sideline of the hunger strike, Thangmeiband United Club vice president Pratap Leishangthem asserted that like the other indigenous folks of North East, locals of Thangmeiband Maisnam Leikai and Thangmeiband United Club are strongly against the CAB.
Stating that the Bill should not be tabled in the Rajya Sabha and withdrawn immediately, he declared that the locals of Thangmeiband will no longer honour any Indian freedom fighter and great personalities if the BJP does not pay heed to the demands of the people of the State and North East in general and pass CAB 2016 by sidelining the voice of opposition.
Pratap further said that only the portraits of Manipuri freedom fighters and eminent personalities of the State like Hijam Irabot will be used while organizing functions in the State if their stand is not respected.
Declaring that Thangmeiband United Club and locals of Thangmeiband will support the movement of MANPAC, the vice president also maintained that the volunteers of the club and locals of Thangmeiband are ready to give blood if required to prevent passage of the Bill in Rajya Sabha.
