Bishnupur, August 31 2024:
Gentle, respectful words and acts of kindness between different indigenous communities can bring harmony and a sense of integration among the said communities, remarked Kabui Union Manipur president Dr Kamei Heera Kabui today.
He made the statement during a felicitation programme organised by Moirang Thangjing Yageirel Marup, Moirang at Moirang Kangla, erstwhile Moirang Konung, in his honour.
The programme was conducted in recognition of Dr Kamei Heera Kabui's tireless efforts and contributions to promote the traditions and customs of the Kabui community as well as to boost the age-old relation and bond between the Kabui community and Moirang.
Notably, for all his hardwork, Moirang Thangjing Yageirel Marup, Moirang gave him the title of "Kabui Natki Lamjing Meira" on the occasion.
Simple gifts were also presented to the Kabui Union Manipur president.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Heera said that from a young age he was inspired by the idea of peaceful coexistence and harmony among the different communities.
Witnessing the gradual decline and disappearance of indigenous groups, he said that he has worked relentlessly to prevent this.
It is pertinent to be aware that everyone has an obligation to safeguard the indigenous communities.
Kind words and small efforts can be the building blocks to integrate the indigenous groups of the State, he said.
Pointing out the attempts by some to absorb or subsume smaller tribes, he said that some are also engaged in the propagation of communal ideas and disharmony.
He urged people to be led by their humanity and do away with harmful ideas to walk the path of righteousness.
He also expressed gratitude and joy upon being honoured at Moirang Kangla which has historical connection with the Kabui community.
"Being honoured and appreciated is a source of encouragement for me to continue my work with zeal", he said.
