Senapati police recover five lost, stolen mobile phones, return to owners

Senapati, July 31 2026: Senapati district police have successfully recovered five lost or stolen mobile phones and handed them over to their rightful owners at Senapati Police Station on Friday, offering relief to people who had lost hope of getting their devices back.

Speaking to media persons at the district police station, Sub-Inspector P Priton Pou said the police had recovered five mobile phones and returned them to their respective owners on Friday.

Explaining the initiative, the Sub-Inspector said that previously, people who lost their mobile phones would register cases at Senapati Police Station, but often could not retrieve their devices even after the cases were forwarded to the Cyber Crime Police in Imphal.

However, a facility to trace and recover lost mobile phones has recently been introduced in the district.

Since its introduction around two to three months ago, the police have recovered approximately 10 to 15 lost mobile phones and returned them to their rightful owners, he said.

Explaining the recovery process, Priton Pou said the system tracks a lost phone when a new SIM card is inserted into the device after it has remained switched off.

Once a new SIM is inserted, the location of the phone can be traced, enabling the police to recover it.

He added that the time taken to recover a lost phone depends largely on how soon a new SIM card is inserted into the device.

The initiative has provided renewed hope to residents who lose their mobile phones, with the police encouraging people to report such cases and register complaints so that efforts can be made to trace and recover the devices.
