Imphal, June 20 2016:
AMUCO and UCM have conveyed
gratitude to all the people for
their participation and
cooperation in observing the
15th Great June Uprising,
Unity Day 2016 successfully.
A press release issued by
the observation committee in-
formed that they would stop
seeking donation in cash and
kind from the public for the
June 18 anniversary with
immediate effect.
The cease fire agreement
signed between the Govern-
ment of India and NSCN-IM
at Bangkok in 2001 which
had the suffix 'without terri-
torial limits' directly
challenged the integrity of
Manipur.
Reacting spontaneously to
the challenge, people of
Manipur rose in unison for a
massive civil movement in the
course of which 18 sons and
daughters of the soil achieved
martyrdom.
Five other people sacri-
ficed their lives in related
protest movements before and
after the June 18 event.
Since then, AMUCO and
UCM have been observing
the Great June Uprising,
Unity Day every year in
memory of the supreme sac-
rifices made by the martyrs.
It further conveyed grati-
tude to all the community
leaders, band parties, Surti
Sangam, Roop Rag, media,
All Manipur Sound Service
Association, Arun Enter-
prises security personnel, staff of RIMS and JNIMS, transport societies,
Kangla Fort Board, different Government departments and others
who contributed in different ways in successful observing the June
18 anniversary function this year.
